Stand in the Gap
Description
A new Christian is under attack and cannot fend for himself. A more mature Christian teacher the younger Christian how to pray (yo-yo). After several failed attempts the mature believer begins to intercede for his friend, countering the attacks of the devil. The new believer sees, understands and applies faith to what he has been taught.
Verses
James 5:15-16 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
1 John 5:16 If anyone sees his brother commit a sin that does not lead to death, he should pray and God will give him life.
What's the Point?
We use this skit to discuss several different themes, depending on our audience. Sometimes we stress the need to place yourself under the wing of a more mature Christian. Our personal testimonies help to emphasize the power discipleship in the body of Christ. We also use this skit to stress the need for faith in all we do, particularly in prayer. It is not by our strength that we overcome, but by the power of God.
